Vitamin D and COVID-19

Is there a connection between vitamin D levels and COVID-19 symptoms?

Researchers in Israel collected records from 253 patients admitted to the hospital for COVID-19 who had vitamin D levels checked within the two years prior to testing positive for COVID-19.

Results: people with vitamin D deficiency were 14 times more likely to have severe or critical symptoms than people with high vitamin D levels.

This study confirms previous study findings that one of the biggest risk factors for dying from COVID-19 infection is low vitamin D levels, and that low vitamin D levels increase risk of all types of respiratory infection, not just COVID-19.
